Julia Elyachar, in anthropology and the Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies, came to Princeton in  summer 2016 from the University of California, Irvine, where she has been since 2007 an assistant professor and associate professor. Elyachar was a research fellow at the Slovene Academy of Sciences and Arts and an assistant professor at New York University. She earned her M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard University and specializes in cultural anthropology. Her research, focused primarily on Egypt, addresses a set of problems at the intersection of political economy, social theory and anthropology.
