Princeton University, through the Swahili, Twi, and African Studies programs hosts the 3rd North-East Region Consortium for Programs in African Languages (NERCPAL) Conference, to take place on April 3-4, 2020 in the Louis A. Simpson International Building, on the campus of Princeton University.

NERCPAL’s goal is to build links between its member institutions, for collaboration and the sharing of teaching/learning initiatives and resources for the African languages amongst its instructors and students, as well as between the organization and the broader academic community. The current members of the consortium are Boston University, Columbia University, Harvard University, Howard University, Princeton University, Rutgers University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Pittsburgh, Wellesley University, and Yale University.  Since its launch in 2008, NERCPAL has held at least one workshop every semester to review, develop, share, and evaluate materials and strategies for teaching. In addition, the consortium has recently embarked on holding annual conferences to provide a forum for their teachers to share research and classroom practices and bring in professionals from outside the Northeast. The first two conferences were hosted by Columbia University (2017) and Howard University (2018).
