Stephen Cohen, professor emeritus of politics at Princeton University and a historian of Soviet and post-Soviet Russia, died on September 18, 2020.

Cohen taught at Princeton from 1968 to 1998, and wrote several books, including his seminal biography of Nikolai Bukhrarin. He was an antagonist of cold-war ideologies in U.S. policy toward Russia, and a sponsor of the Stephen Cohen-Robert Tucker Dissertation Fellowships that supported young scholars’ research in the post-Soviet states.
